Manasota Key
Monday afternoon we headed out to Manasota Key to play in the waves at Manasota Beach. We didn't find many shells, but the beach is very nice. We also spent some time in Englewood having lunch and stopped at a great little store called Daylillies. I love it so much! Somebody who loves me bought me the most palm tree earrings carved from a shell and a beachy wall hanging for our apartment. Pictures of these items to come. We headed down the road to the White Elephant Bar/Restaurant and split some grouper fingers and drinks in their huge tiki bar area that overlooks the marina. This place is also directly across the street from one of the beaches on the Key. I'd recommend it for its homemade Mudslides alone, but the view puts it high on my list. After our snack we were on to...
Boca Grande - Gasparilla Island
Oh. My. Lord. This beach was amazing and our favorite so far. For us, this beats Siesta Key. It was all but deserted when we arrived about 5:30 pm. The first thing you see as you pull up is the lighthouse. As you cross over the dunes you are greeted by this amazing wide expanse of sand. There are covered picnic tables with grills, restrooms and a shower. This is a pay-to-park beach ($2.00) and there is a ($4.00) toll to get to the island. I have no words for the sunset. I'll let the pictures I took do the talking.
