A Healthier Beachy

Even though it's NO fun, it's time for me to buckle down and get my (indulgent) self healthier. I've taken a long hard look at my bad habits and realize it's time for a change.

I've started a diet and I'm trying to eat a lot more salads...not as a part of the meal (like I've been doing), but AS A MEAL. I'm going to practice portion control and everything in moderation.
Which brings us to cutting my drinking back to once a week. This is so hard because #1 I love wine, #2 It's Florida and its fun to have cocktails at the pool, beach, or bar, #3 I'm stressed.

I am also doing my ever-loving best to quit smoking. Please don't judge me too harshly! Today is Day 5 without so much as a drag. I should have given this habit up right after I graduated college, but it's been a tough one to quit. This one is especially important because of my mom's situation. (Even though she never smoked.) I'll also save some $$$.

So, why am I telling you? I need your help! I need diet tips and tricks. I need to know how you limit drinks. I need to know how you gave up smoking.

Thanks so much for your kind words and prayers for my mom. I truly appreciate it and will keep you updated.

Best of luck sweetie! I know how hard it is trying to cut back anything, let alone smoking! A lot of my friends have quit sucessfully and feel so much healthier and better because of it. I too struggle with eating healthy, it's so hard when there's so much yummy/bad for you foods out there! haha. I've been making alot of recpies from cookinglight.com, it lists the nutrition info. and they are great/healthy recpies. Keep us updated on your progress!

Good luck! These are great resolutions! I really enjoy a glass of wine or beer in the evenings, so when I am trying to cut back (please don't laugh at this; I know it sounds weird), I put ice water or club soda in a wine glass with lemon or lime and drink that while I am watching TV or reading or taking a bath. Yes, I know it sounds weird to drink water out of a wine glass, but it seems to work!

Have a great weekend!

congratulations...you can do it and it helps so much to put it all out there and know that people are in your corner. keep us posted. If you like eggs, I boil them on Sunday and add them to my salad all week. It seems like I'm so much more satisfied if there is egg in my salad.

Congrats on the commitment to kick the habit (and others, too)! I'll be thinking about ya :-) PS - I won't tell ya "Good Luck". You don't need... just Nike it up and "Just Do It"!

When I go grocery shopping I try to stick to the perimeter of the store. There I find mostly non-processed foods that are much better for you. Fruits, vegetables, and meats. I also look at the ingredients if I do purchased any processed foods. If the list is too long or I can't pronounce the words, I put the item back. I figure if I don't have bad food choices in the house then I can't eat them. Flavored seltzer water is the best! Just sweet enough to take the craving away at times.

Maybe you should put all the money you would have spent buying cigarettes in a container and then that will keep you focused and excited about how much you're saving by quitting, plus it will help your stress level since you'll have some extra money.

Good luck and that's great to quit smoking!! That alone will help tremendously with your health! I don't limit drinks...but I do drink more wine instead of other cocktails! Read the book Eat to Live!! Very helpful tips in there! I am also an excercise freak and that helps a lot! Eat tons of fruits and veggies and low fat to lose weight!! Hope that helps and keep us posted on the progress!!! I also have some health blogs that I check out daily for inspirations! Oh and check out Sparkpeople.com very helpful!!!!

As preppy pugs suggested, try to stay away from processed foods. I started a new routine with a 14 detox, no processes foods, no alcohol and no caffeine. It was much easier than I thought. I now eat 6 times a day, still no processed foods or caffeine. It's the wine I choose not to give up. I try to stick with red and drink plenty of water. I've lost five lbs and a few inches and I work out every day.

Good Luck.
