So after driving around City Park,
we ended up at Cafe Degas which was excellent. If you haven't been, you should know it is a wonderful little French bistro that has a tree growing in the middle of it! We drank mimosas and feasted on mussels, brie, smoked white cheddar, walnuts, and fruit. BF had seared tuna salad, I had jumbo lump crabmeat salad, and mom had a shrimp, mushroom, bacon omlette.
After brunch, we headed into the Quarter and it was HOT! We shared about 4 hurricanes at Pat O'Brien's to cool off.
We had drinks at the Monteleone's Carousel Bar which was really fun except for the rude bartender. Took forever to get a drink!
On our way home we stopped for crawfish and boiled shrimp. BF loves this stuff. Me? Not so much. Peeling crawfish kills my fingers and boiled shrimp seems to always be mushy.
I prefer the way the do it on the Panhandle (boil it and immediately put it on ice to stop the cooking).
Sunday it was a lot nicer and a lot less humid so we walked around the neighborhood and cooked. I made Apple-Monkey Bread French Toast for breakfast. we had BLT's for lunch and I made BF's favorite roast chicken and gravy with potatoes and corn for dinner. Lemon cupcakes were dessert.
Nothing but salads this week.

Sounds like some good-eatin' to me :) Glad you had a good weekend!
I'm so happy to hear that Cafe Degas is still there! I had dinner there one night on the somewhat patio by the tree...they had the plastic wall tarps down and it was pouring rain outside...it was by far the coolest dinner I've ever had.
What a fun weekend! I'm glad your mom had a great visit!
Looks like you had so much fun with your mom! And I am totally living vicariously through your food descriptions. I'm so jealous!
I just found your blog via a comment you left for Pioneer Woman. I live in Oklahoma but pine for New Orleans. My dh and I go at least twice a year and have dreams of living there one day.
We've only eaten at Café Degas once but it was wonderful. It's too bad your bartender at the Carousel Bar was inattentive. That's one of my favorite places for a well-made drink and one of the bartenders there is a real joy to watch.
As for the BBQ shrimp, have you tried it at the Oceana Grill in the Quarter? Every time I've had it there it's been really good.
Check out my blog sometime; I have numerous pictures and posts about our trips to N.O., most recently our experience at PyrateCon in April. What a blast!
